CARLYLE MOTEL SIGN
THIS SITE IS DEDICATED TO THE WORLD FAMOUS CARLYLE MOTEL PORCELAIN-COATED STEEL NEON SIGN. WE BOUGHT THE SIGN, AND AFTER A CONCERTED EFFORT TO DONATE IT TO A MUSEUM (WITH NO TAKERS), WE SOLD IT OFF IN PIECES. OTHER THAN OWNING THE SIGN, WE ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE CARLYLE MOTEL.
The neon sign from the Carlyle Motel on Route 66 in Oklahoma City (3600 NW 39th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73112) was removed January 18, 2013.
Erected in 1958 by Superior Neon, a company steeped in Route 66 history since 1935, the Carlyle Motel sign has been greeting weary motorists on Route 66 in Oklahoma City for well over half a century with its classic 1950s colors and iconic mid-century architecture. As a must-see attraction in the Route 66 Dining and Lodging Guide, this sign has become one of the most recognizable and photographed relics of a bygone era.
This website is a tribute and reference source for a great piece of America’s past.
